The Department of Fish Biology, Fisheries and Aquaculture led by Prof. Dr. Jens Krause at the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB, www.igb-berlin.de) in Berlin invites applications for a tenure track group leader position in Fish Movement Ecology. The new group leader is expected to start a research program that will advance our understanding of movement patterns of fish through both lab-based experimental work and field studies. This should include mechanistically understanding and modelling fish movement patterns at different spatio-temporal scales on the basis of high-resolution and high-frequency biotelemetry and other data in response to environmental changes and experimental interventions. The position fits in the strategic development of IGB to empower its capacity for predictive ecology, through a better mechanistic understanding of the structure and functioning of freshwater systems, informing projections on future scenarios and its implications for the distribution and abundance of organisms, and for using mechanistic insights to optimize management and conservation of our freshwater fish populations.
